Is this the cure for mindless scrolling?
By - Richard - 13th October 2025
I have had this feeling this year, more than ever before, that time is moving faster and faster. Because of this, I am determined not to waste it.
The one thing I have found to be an unacceptable waste of my time is my crippling phone addiction and mindless scrolling of the internet.
So, I came up with an idea that I tried for 30 days. Every hour that I was awake, I set an alarm to go off. There were two aims to this. Firstly, I wanted to become more aware of time passing. I wanted to acknowledge when another hour of my life had passed in the hope that by bringing more awareness to this, it could make it feel like time was not passing by so quickly.
And secondly – more importantly – I wanted to use these hourly alarms as a reminder to not waste my time. When the alarm went off, I asked myself the question, ‘Am I being intentional with my time?’, that is to say, am I doing what I should be doing or what I want to be doing, or am I just wasting time?
This video documents my 30 day journey and I have to say that I was massively surprised by the outcome.
