Running 4 mile every 4 hours for 48 hours

By - Richard - 1st May 2023

My heart was broken. From experience, I know that the best thing to do when going through a difficult time is to keep moving. Literally and metaphorically.

So, it seemed like the perfect time to undertake the 4x4x48 running challenge created by legendary ultrarunner and former Navy Seal, David Goggins.

The challenge is deceptively simple. Run 4 miles every four hours for 48 hours. A total of 48 miles. In practice, it is a brutal undertaking that is much a mental challenge as it is physical.

This video documents my attempt at the 4x4x48 challenge which took me to some dark places.

Starting at 8pm on a Friday, the night runs are difficult, particularly so on the second night. Throughout this challenge I was plagued with doubt. Was this even a good idea?

Like all these challenges, the reward comes in undertaking something that scares you. If you’re successful, the confidence this gives you will ripple through all areas of your life.

Make no mistake, this was brutal. But I’m so glad I attempted it.
