Positive for Covid. How I got through self-isolation

By - Richard - 31st December 2021

This is the self-isolation video diary of a double-vaccinated 42 year old.

After 20 months of successfully managing to avoid the dreaded Covid 19 virus, it finally caught up with me. This was in the days prior to Omicron sweeping the UK.

I fully appreciate that I am one of the many who has tested positive for Covid 19 and I am no different to thousands of others. My intention with this video was to document how I felt from day to day. I was particularly curious about how I would react to getting Covid having been hospitalised in 2017 with pneumonia.

This video documents my 10 days of self-isolation in my home studio as I tried to ensure that my wife Kirsty and younger son Tom did not catch the virus from me.

Over the course of 10 days, I felt very unwell. Unlike with other illness, Covid lingers. I felt just as unwell after eight days as I did after two.

I don’t know what the solution to this pandemic is, but I now know that Covid is nasty. It is not something that I would ever want to experience again and I am now even more worried about people older than me who I care about catching this virus.

Since filming this video, I have now had my third booster vaccination. Thank god for the NHS.
